my profile story for sherrietjewson Tribe
My story starts with my mother’s mother. I can remember her knitting, crocheting and embroidering all day every day when I visited her.
It didn’t take long for the cloth, needles and thread where in my hands. This was a dream come true for me. She was a great teacher; however the words of Nan came to me many times. The back does not look like the front. You need to pull out your work and start again. This was my first lesson and I cherished all of her attention and love.
Textiles will be part of my life and will continue to be until I have fallen off my huge stash of fabric, threads, lace and things of secret textile stuff and injured myself badly. I must write down my desire to have some of my silks and lace and thread with me in my coffin.
Quilting has been a large part of my skills and techniques over the years. Painting on fabric and free motion quilting has given me many hours of joy.
Detail in my work is my joy and my enemy. It is the love and hate at the same time. I love to work small with embroidery and beading and often I don’t know how I did some of the work. That is what happens when you get into the zone.
Experimenting with products, colour and texture has always interested me. This is why I decided to be involved with Powertex for my mixed media art work .
My Powertex story started a few years ago when I saw some polystyrene mannequin heads being adapted to garden art using Powertex. So I purchased the heads and the Powertex, played a little but didn’t complete any art. Powertex was on my radar, searching Pinterest and you tube. Out of the blue came a message from Ashley Hay. Would you like to become a Certified Powertex Trainer? After a conversation with Ashley and Tony my husband it was yes please.
I have been playing with Powertex product for the last 6 weeks and having a lot of fun. Looking forward to teaching mixed media with Powertex in the near future.
